Defense Officials Ordered to Ignore Policy and Download Signal to Government Phones
The MeidasTouch is reporting that a source inside the pentagon has advised them that Trump’s political appointee ordered officials to violate policy and install Signal on their phones. The source, a high-level information security officer, said that soon after Katie Arrington was appointed as the Pentagon CIO, high level officials were ordered to ignore security measures and Pentagon policy and install Signal, a commercially available civilian messaging app on their government phones.
This is not only a huge national security risk but also most likely violates several laws. We already know that defense officials at the highest level were sharing classified information and war plans in one Signal chat group, the group also included the Vice President, which means that this group alone violated The Espionage Act and The Records Acts.
However, if you have been paying attention the last few years you would know that the use of Signal for government communications is straight out the Project 2025 playbook. One characteristic that the Project 2025 leaders especially like about Signal is that it automatically deletes conversations at a pre-selected time point. The creators of Project 2025 have been trying to get around the preservation of government communications and records laws such as The Records Acts for some time and have even produced training videos on how to do it. Their ultimate goal is to take over the federal government and install their Christian Theocracy and if you have high level officials communicating plans for their coup they want to leave no evidence.
The revelation that members of the Trump administration at the highest levels are using this app is more than just an intelligence breach and national security risk. We should all be very worried about what other plans they are communicating using nongovernment channels that leave no evidence. This is a real threat to our democracy.
